I have just nearly finished moving all of the retro games consoles into the new place from storage.

It has been a year since I’ve been able to use some of these! Some of them haven’t travelled well either, unfortunately, and I need to replace a few.

This is the current list of retro consoles (note: not mini consoles, not Evercade.. there will be another post for those):

Fully Working

These are consoles I consider ‘fully modded’ and I don’t need to work on them anymore.

  • Sega Genesis + Sega Master System - All games from both platforms are playable and accessible. I have 2x original Sega Genesis 3 button controllers, 2x original Sega Genesis 6 button controllers, 2x Sega Master System controllers and 2x 8BitDo Sega Genesis 2.4ghz wireless controllers.
  • Super Nintendo - All games from the library are accessible, minus games that require the Super FX chipset such as Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Story. I have physical original carts for those Super FX games that I really value. I have 1x original controller and 2x 8Bitdo SNES 2.4ghz wireless controllers.
  • Nintendo 64 - All games are accessible. I have the memory upgrade pak required for games like GoldenEye. I have 2x original N64 controllers and 2x Retrofighter wireless controllers which are compatible for the N64 and gamecube.
  • PC Engine DUO - All PC FX 16 games are accessible, but not anything that requires the CD drive. I have one original controller and a bluetooth adaptor that allows for third party wireless bluetooth controllers to connect, up to a max of 5.
  • Neo Geo CD - All Neo Geo CD games are accessible. I have 1x original controller, 2x wireless dongles that allow for use with the 2x 8BitDo bluetooth Neo Geo controllers I have, and 2x USB adaptors allowing for connection with the 2x Mayflash 500 Swana controls fightsticks.
  • Wii U - All released games are accessible. I have 1x Wii U original pad, 2x Wii U Pro controllers, and a hard drive full of the entire Wii U game collection.
  • Nintendo Switch 1 - All released games are accessible, BUT you have to transfer them over the network - there is only enough storage for a few games at one time. I have the original Joycons, Hori Pacman Joycons, Nintendo Switch 1 dock and 2x Nintendo Switch Pro controllers.
  • Playstation 2 - All released games are accessible. I have 2x original controllers and 2x 8Bitdo Pro 2 wireless controllers and dongles.
  • PSP Vita - I have Nopaystation access to download any game, although the console will only store a few in memory.

Consoles I own that I still need to Mod/Fix

  • Sony Playstation 1
  • Sega Dreamcast
  • Nintendo Gamecube
  • Sony PSP 1
  • Nintendo DSi XL
  • Nintendo Gameboy Original
  • XBOX Original

Consoles I don’t own that I want to buy

  • Sega Saturn
  • Nintendo 3DS XL

Consoles I own that I’m probably never going to mod

This is because there are not many games exclusive to them - so I can just buy those original games. Almost all modern console games get ported to the PC after a while, and my PC gaming setup is almost always the best place to play them.

  • Xbox 360
  • Playstation 3
  • Playstation 4
