Introduction and Philosophy

I have been slowly collecting retro consoles, soft-modding them, making sure I can play all available games on them, and fitting them out with third party low latency wireless controllers and cables and accessories to ensure the best video and audio that they can achieve, while collecting all relevant third party accessories.

This is my philosophy now for retro gaming - with a few exceptions, I am no longer collecting any games that I cannot play on these soft-modded consoles. In the future I will be selling my retro game collection, and removing emulation options on my PC, so that I have ONE way to play the games, and that is the best one.

This offers me the best hope of allowing me to play as many games on as many retro consoles as possible, while making sure that I use original hardware for the best experience, while minimising the physical space footprint of my collection, and also - the cost.

I don’t want to be collecting anything that has zero use to me, and that includes inferior copies of different games on other formats.

I will still collect modded/upscaled/remasters/remade versions of these retro games on PC - IF they are superior to the original version.

Display

I use an OSSC 1.6 with MClassic Upscaler for HDMI output, and I use a Sony Trinitron 14" CRT TV with external speakers for CRT output.

Cables

I almost exclusively use RetroGamingCables ’s cables and connection accessories - they are the best that I’ve found.

Controllers

I usually, but not always, use 8BitDo wireless controllers, as I’ve been the most impressed with them so far. I try and make sure they are 2.4ghz or at least acceptable latency.

Peripherals

I try and collect ALL major peripherals, such as alternative controllers, guitar hero controllers, dance mats etc.. with the exception of light guns for each console simply because I feel my CRT is too small for good light gun use. My accessories collection is far from complete and needs some work though.

Light Guns

For light gun games, I much prefer PC emulation and Sinden Light guns , of which I have two.

Region Unlocked

All the consoles I consider ‘finished’ are softmodded to remove region lock, and usually all games are available from all regions. Where there is not possible, for example, file size, I prioritise English games unless there is a good reason not to.
